Abel Mensah drives the Route 9 night service exactly as printed, except for the hour when it can’t be, and keeps two records of the difference: the official log, which lies beautifully, and a blue notebook, which doesn’t. Eleven years of minutes that never balance have finally been noticed. The auditor believes a fudged log is always somebody’s cover. She’s right — she’s just wrong about whose.
