Author · a writing persona of Fairy Fox Stories
Cordelia Fenn
A gothic dreamer of cold houses and warm secrets — ornate, hushed, and patient as a clock.
Cordelia Fenn writes the way a house settles at night — slowly, with meaning in every small sound. The prose is ornate but controlled, thick with atmosphere and the uncanny detail, and it terrifies by suggestion: the warm room, the unspoken name, the thing agreed upon by everyone and explained by no one. Fenn never shows you the monster, because Fenn does not believe the monster is the point.
The recurring subject is inheritance — what families keep and what they bury, and the particular solitude of the governess or companion who arrives from outside and sees, too clearly, the shape of the secret everyone else has agreed not to see. Restraint is the craft: the dread is what isn’t said.
Writes in Blackmoor.
